August 15, 2008
August the 8th was my birthday and I got myself a new tattoo :)  (photo coming soon).  We did some bowling, some drinking and some karaoke at a Korean karaoke place.  Fun stuff.

I should be hearing any day now about a couple of shows that I've applied for:  Huffhines Art Trails and MusicArte de Fort Worth.  Keep your fingers crossed for me!

My first mail-in con is this weekend.  If you happen to be in Austin and attending the Armadillo Con, let me know how my stuff is doing :)  My next one (AnimeFest) is coming up at the end of this month in Dallas.

I'd write more, but I'm not feeling very well and I need to go take some drugs.  :)

I sent in my money and application for the Houston Street Fair and Market several weeks ago.  We'd planned the trip and everyone was excited.  About three days before we were set to leave, I received a call from someone stating that it is for "local" artists only and I was too far out of their area.  It would have been really nice if it had stated that somewhere on the website or application.  Anyway, we had to cancel the trip.  I'm a little bummed, but I'll get over it.

The Lazy Dragon Con turned out to be pretty disappointing to all of the exhibitors.  Some had a couple of sales, but most had none at all (myself included).  They were expecting about 500 visitors, but I'd be surprised if there were 50 all weekend.  There was plenty of advertising and marketing, so no one is really sure what happened.  Perhaps it was the weather or everyone was waiting in line to see "Batman".  I can't say that the weekend was a complete loss as I did have a lot of fun meeting some really cool people and getting some of my convention questions answered.  I took a few pics that you can see here.

I'll be sending in some art to Armadillo Con in Austin and AnimeFest in Dallas.  I'll get those dates up soon.  :)

I added the Houston Street Fair & Market to the calendar.  I'm not 100% sure about this one.  Still waiting to hear back about space availability, but I'm hoping it will work out.  I've got to make a trip down to Houston in a couple of weeks and figured why not do a show in San Antonio while I'm in the area?  :)  I'll have to rent a little U-Haul trailer, but that's no big deal.  My husband has never been to the River Walk and my kids have never been to San Antonio at all, so we're making a family trip out of it.

I've got some fun new art in the works, so keep an eye out for new stuff over here to the left!  I've also registered with ProPay so I can now accept credit card payments.  Things are starting to come together!

Have a safe and happy Fourth!!

I added a little get-together to the calendar.  It's called the "Creative Squat" (insert joke here).  Basically, each artist gets 20 images projected one at a time.  I'll have 20 seconds to talk about each image before it moves to the next.  When my time is up, it's on to the next artist.  It's mostly a networking thing, but I think it could be fun.  Come have a beer and check it out!

So the Art Love Magic Girl Show didn't go exactly as well as I had hoped, but I had a good time.  I was originally in the gallery, but got moved to the hallway.  Unfortunately, not too many people were aware that anything was going on in the hallway.  While the gallery was packed, it was pretty quiet where I was.  I spent way more money getting ready for this than I made, but it was for stuff that I can use over and over, so it's no biggie.  I still had fun and got some names on my mailing list, so it may all work out in the end.  Check out some photos here.

Speaking of expenses, I just spent a ton on some used Pro Panel display walls.  I spent some time setting them up in my front yard so I could take my booth shot.  I'm now ready to start applying to the big shows.  Yay :)  I've got a few in mind, but I'm going to wait until it gets closer to the deadline so I'll have time to come up with some really good stuff to submit.  I'm happy with some of my art, but I need to put together some more "family friendly" work for the big art fairs.

I've met a lot of cool artists and I'm sure I'll meet more.  I'll be adding some of their websites to the links page soon, so check back often!

OK...I'm tired.  I rearranged my house to put together a real studio and my muscles are killing me.  I think I'm heading to bed now.  See ya'll later!

I wrote a little feel-good article that I'd like to share.  You can read it here.  Feel free to leave some feedback in my guestbook.  :)

I've been working my tushie off on this dang site!  I fixed some broken image links, added a working hit counter and added a guestbook (see above).  I also made a new header.  Feedback?  I need a nap....

I got into my first juried show!  Yay me!  The Lakewood Summer Arts Faire accepts around thirty artists, so I feel very fortunate to have been accepted.  It's an indoor art show, so feel free to come and enjoy the art and music.  Check out the calendar to the right for details.

My tent arrived and it's super easy to put up and take down, even by myself.  I found some used art panels on a message board and I'll be picking them up on Sunday.  It's stretched my budget about as far as it can go, but it's a necessity.  Most shows won't even look at you if you can't send in a photo of your booth setup.  Now that I've got the majority of the supplies that I need, I've got to get to work!  If I sell as well as I'm hoping, I'll run out of original art before I know it.  I've got to spend every free moment either developing ideas or completing artwork.  I'm looking forward to a lot of carpel tunnel!

I added another show.  Yay!  If you're a gamer or ren-nerd, this will be an awesome show for you!  The Lazy Dragon Con will have vendors, gaming, artists and some actors from movies and tv shows like Star Wars (the new ones), Harry Potter, Buffy, etc.  I think it's awesome that I'll be a part of this group.  I'll be at table A10 in Artist's Alley. I lucked into getting the very last spot available.  Now I need to get some display walls for some of my hanging work considering that I'm sharing an 8 ft table with someone else (I get 4 ft).  Check out their website and take a look at some of the other amazing artists, authors and talent that will be there!

On a separate note, I must mention that I hate Frontpage.  Sorry, Microsoft, but it really sucks.  I'll load my site and my gallery will be missing.  I'll load it again (without changing anything) and *poof*!  My gallery has magically reappeared.  What the hay?  My hit counter doesn't work.  My contact form doesn't work.  Things don't line up the way I put them.  I could go on and on.  Fortunately, my husband has ridden in on his golden horse to save the day!  I'll be installing Dreamweaver pretty soon and will hopefully have a much prettier site.  I was really looking forward to starting on it last night, but we had some wicked wind that came in and knocked the power out for about 12 hours.  The house looked pretty cool in candlelight....and it was sooooo quiet :)

I've got a couple of re-vamped images to upload.  Hopefully the power will be on tonight when I get home :)

Wow am I slacking!  It's been almost a year since my last "update".  So here are a few things that have been going on with me:

1. I've done a couple of art shows with the Art, Love, Magic group.  They're a bunch of fun and I can't wait for the next one on June 28th.

2. Started a new "day job".  Bartending just wasn't paying the bills, so I got a job as an administrative assistant.  I love the work and the people and we're not struggling as much any more.

3. Still running DFW's awesomest karaoke show (at least I think so) at Absinthe Lounge on the last Thursday of every month from 9pm to 2am.

4. I had my wisdom teeth removed a few weeks ago.  That was fun.

5. Decided I want to start doing art fairs and festivals.  I am still trying to get all of the equipment together, so it may be a while.  If you know anyone who wants to sell a 10x10 white canopy tent with display wall cheap, let me know :)

6. FINALLY updated this site a bit.  I put prices on the gallery page.  I still plan on splitting it out to separate pages soon, but that's just too much work for one night.  Working on the FAQ, but I need some people to ask the questions first.  Changed my "About" page a bit.  Added a calendar (see above).

More to come soon (isn't that what I said last year?)

Finally getting around to updating this whole site.  I expect it will change quite a bit as I work out some of the kinks.  Hoping to get the store up and running real soon.  :)
